GRQ Used Furniture in Kutztown will be merging with its sister store, the Fleetwood Antique Mall starting May 15.

GRQ co-owners Sherry and Jack Arak said the building at 145 Highland Ave. in Kutztown has been sold. GRQ was given a two-day notice and 60 days to vacate.

“Our intention is to, with the help of Richmond Township, build on this property (Fleetwood Antique Mall) and relocate,” said Jack.

The Arak family also owns Fleetwood Antique Mall on Route 222 in Fleetwood and The Shoppes at Kirbyville, also on Route 222 in Fleetwood.

“We just need the Kutztown area to realize we’re not closing, we’re going to merge here (at Fleetwood Antique Mall) for a little until we can get the approval to go ahead and build a new building,” said their daughter Alexis, manager and marketing.

“Which we’re on the right path but it’s still a year down the road until it’s under roof,” added Jack.

The new building is proposed to be built on the Fleetwood Antique Mall property.

“We’re not closing, we’re relocating,” said Alexis.

“The public is very disappointed,” said Jack. “It was more than just a business, it was kind of a service that we provided. Quality furniture, rather inexpensive and we want them to know that it didn’t go away all together.”

GRQ stands for great prices, real service, quality merchandise. Jack said they were in the building for 15 years and had furniture there for 10 years.

“It’s kind of bitter sweet. Ten years ago (Alexis) wasn’t old enough to do anything or know anything but she’s really taken a huge part,” said Jack.

“We’re excited for a new building,” said Alexis. “We’re looking for more quantity, have more than what we have out there (in Kutztown).”

Alexis enjoys being involved in the family business.

“It’s something I’d like to take over. Meeting people from all over, the different styles, the furniture that comes in, just a little bit of everything, there’s nothing in particular that’s my favorite,” said Alexis.

“I was raised on the business, there’s nothing I don’t like about it,” said Jack.

His parents Jerry and Elaine Arak previously owned Fleetwood Antique Mall, formerly called The Antique Complex of Fleetwood. They retired about two years ago and Jack and Sherry bought the business.

His favorite part about the business are the people, “Our loyal customers.”

There will be moving sales at GRQ in Kutztown until May 15.
