After witnessing discrimination in a hair salon where she worked, Ana Ilarraza of Laureldale decided to open her own salon three years ago in Reading that caters to all hair types and people of all sizes, as well as those with special needs such as Autism.
“It’s a hair salon for everybody,” said Ana.
She moved Master of Beauty at the Hair Lounge to 21 East Main Street in Kutztown this summer.
“I like the atmosphere, the vibe. It’s upbeat,” said Ana.
Master of Beauty at the Hair Lounge is not the average salon, she said. She is 6 feet 5 inches tall. Her nephew is 7 feet 3 inches tall. Over her 20 years experience working in salons, she said, “When people of different sizes come into a salon, they don’t have the seats to accommodate different sizes.”
Customers would be turned away.
Ana is also trained to provide hair services to those with special needs, such as Autism.
She strives to offer quality hair salon and barber services at reasonable prices to her clients.
“I live to do this. I’m really passionate about what I do.”
Ana has been doing hair for more than 20 years. She has her cosmetology teachers license and is trained withe the American Cancer Society Look Good Feel Better program.
