USED BOOK SALE The Friends of the Boyertown Community Library will sponsor aUsed Book Sale to benefit the Boyertown Community Library 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 6 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 7 at Good Shepherd UCC Church Fellowship Hall, 35 W. Philadelphia Avenue,Boyertown.

Saturday, Dec. 7 FLAG CEREMONY

On Dec. 7, Scout Pack 555 will be performing a flag ceremony in honor of the day at Main Bird Park, Birdsboro. At sunrise the flag will be lowered to ‘half staff.’ At 4 p.m. all area scouts, vets and the community are invited out to hear a few words and help us honor the fallen heroes and thank our vets for their service.

WREATH, COOKIE, CRAFT SALE On Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon to 3 p.m. you can stop by the Exeter Community Library for our Holiday Wreath, Cookie, and Craft Sale. All wreaths are donated and decorated by local flower shops, businesses, and members of the community. Cookies are baked and donated by the Friends. All proceeds benefit the Exeter Community Library.

SOUNDS OF THE SEASON The Albright College choral ensembles will present their annual holiday concert, Sounds of the Season, on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m., in Memorial Chapel. Adlai Binger, director of choral ensembles, will conduct the concert, which is free and open to the public.

Before the concert, a candlelight dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m., in the Campus Center South Lounge.

Advance reservations are required by Nov. 29.

Schwarzwald Lutheran Church Presents ‘A Christmas Celebration’ with The Ringgold Band and A Community Choir Sunday, December 8. Craft Fair and food from 2 to 6 p.m. Music is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m.

TREE OF REMEMBRANCE DEDICATION

The 21st Annual Tree of Remembrance event is a holiday gathering to honor, remember and celebrate the lives of friends and loved ones. Proceeds from this event support the Berks Visiting Nurse Association hospice program.

It will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Berks VNA offices located at 1170 Berkshire Boulevard, Wyomissing, Pa.

Sunday, Dec. 15 ADVENT VESPERS

Berks Catholic High School will present its Third Annual Advent Vespers Program 4 p.m. Dec. 15 at St. Benedict’s Church 2020 Chestnut Hill Rd., Mohnton. Advent Vespers is a service of light, word and song that features the students of the Berks Catholic Chorus and Select Choir.

Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served afterwards in the social hall.

BLUE CHRISTMAS Blue Christmas: A Service of Comfort and Hope will take place at St. Paul’s UCC, 300 West First St., Birdsboro, in conjunction with Alice Focht, United, and Christ United Methodist churches. Tuesday, Dec. 17 ANGELA HOHL MEMORIAL BLOOD DRIVE

The Angela Hohl Memorial Blood Drive will be held at the Daniel Boone High School from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 17.

COMMUNITY MEAL The Daniel Boone Area Girl Scouts will host a community meal through LoveINC 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Birdsboro Community Center. This is a free holiday themed community meal that is cooked and served by our local Girl Scouts and their families. Our girls will also be there caroling and handing out homemade ornaments.

Thursday, Dec. 19 The Berks Visiting Nurse Association will host a blood pressure clinic from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Dec. 19 at the Birdsboro Community Center, 201 E. Main St., Birdsboro.

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS Berks County Association for the Blind needs volunteer drivers to take clients to special programs and events. You can sign up for as many days as you want to. HOPE UMC’S PRAYER TIME Hope UMC is inviting everyone to the last Friday of each month for Prayer Time 7 to 8 p.m. This is an open invitation for anyone to come and join in for a casual and relaxing time of spontaneous prayers.

A time to pray together or by ourselves for all kinds of prayers, some of which may be for ourselves, friends, family, our community, our church, our schools, and current world events. There is no format for the prayer services as each service is lead by the Holy Spirit. The church is at 117 North Monocacy Creek Rd., Douglassville.

DERBY GIRLS Wanna be a Derby Girl? Reading Derby Girls are looking for ‘fresh meat’ to join the all girls flat track roller derby team. If you can already skate, great, if not, we’ll teach you. We practice at Skateaway, 2275 Lancaster Ave., Shillington. We recommend a mouth guard.

You can borrow skates and pads from the team if you don’t have your own. Reading Derby Girls’ Wednesday ‘Fresh Meat’ practices 9:30 – 10:30 p.m.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS It takes all kinds of people in the community to make a successful foundation. The BLAZER FOUNDATION is seeking volunteers who wish to make a difference to the students of the Daniel Boone School District.

The Blazer Foundation’s purpose is to enhance the education and development of the youth of the Daniel Boone School District through supporting creative and innovative programs, and developing and sustaining community and business partnerships.

If you would like to be a part of building a community invested in the awesome youth in the Daniel Boone School District, please consider joining the team of enthusiastic and dedicated individuals of the Blazer Foundation. Here are some areas that we need help:

ENERGY AUDIT Use your Boone Area Library card to check out the Home Energy Audit Kit. Plug appliances into the Kill-A-Watt electricity usage monitor and it will tell you how efficient they are. The Kill-A-Watt LCD display measures consumption by the kilowatt-hour, just like the elective company. Reduce your electric bill.
