Dining with Diabetes is a Penn State Extension program for adults with diabetes and their families. The Center at Spring Street in Boyertown will host a free Dining with Diabetes class for their members and adults of any age in the community that are interested in attending.

The sessions will be held at The Center at Spring Street, 200 West Spring Street, Boyertown. The dates and times for the program are May 5, 12, 19 and June 2, 9 from 9:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. each session. Monday, May 5, will be an information and participant registration session. In addition to these sessions, a follow-up class will be held on Monday, August 4. Pre-registration is required due to space limitations.

Participants will learn how to prepare meals that are healthy, simple and taste good. Recipes will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to help prepare and taste each one. Participants will also learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, and exercises as well as how to understand common, diabetes-related medical issues. Recipes and handouts will be given to each participant.

Diabetes is a very serious and costly disease, but research has shown that those who learn to manage their blood sugar levels, eat healthy, and exercise regularly can lower their risk of complications and lead a healthier and more productive life.

To register for the class, call The Center at Spring Street at 610-367-2313 by Friday, May 2. For more information call Mandel Smith with Penn State Extension at 610-489-4315.
