Date slated for Oley's Marc McKently Memorial 5K Run

The Marc McKently Memorial 5K Run is scheduled to be held Wednesday, June 4, at 7 p.m.

Organizers invite community members to join together to remember and honor the spirit and life of Marc McKently. According to a 2011 article in The Boyertown Area Times, McKently was killed in a fatal crash on February 9, 2011. McKently was 17 years old and senior at Oley Valley High School.

This year’s race will be held at Union Jack’s Inn on the Manatawny located at 546 Manatawny Road, Boyertown.

The wheel-measured 3.1 miles will run on country roads and along a stream through the scenic Oley Valley. The course runs through a Historic Covered Bridge and ends with a challenging finish, according to a recent release.

Amenities include a t-Shirt for all pre-registered participants, refreshments for finishers, time clock at finish and instant results. There will also be food and drinks for purchase at Union Jack’s Pub & Outdoor Patio.

5K award will include: Top Male and Top Female; 14 and under: 3M/3F; 15-19: 3M/3F; 20-29: 3M/3F; 30-39: 3M/3F; 40-49: 3M/3F; 50-59: 3M/3F; 60 & up: 3M/3F.

Results will be posted at www.pretzelcitysports.com in 36-72 hours following the race.

Registration and payment must be postmarked by May 22. Registration after May 22 including day of race: $25 while shirts last; $20 without shirt.

All proceeds and donations benefit the Marc McKently Scholarship Fund at Oley Valley High School. This event will be held rain or shine; no refunds. Optional online registration available at www.pretzelcitysports.com until midnight June 1st.
