The community gave a warm welcome to Lisa Mitchell, new editor, and myself, correspondent Carol Quaintance, at the Village Library in Morgantown, Saturday April 26 at noon at our Meet and Greet Tea.

Library Director Susan Shipe opened the event welcoming all the guests. They sponsored the Tri County Record Spring Tea by promoting the event and offering the use of the community room.

‘When we moved into the Morgantown area years ago, the two things that helped us to feel a part of the area were the Tri County Record and The Village Library,’ said Carol Donahue who attended with her three children.

Event volunteers Lori and Julia Hevalow, Debra Hahn, Catherine Manbeck and Gloria Quaintance decorated the tables with pretty Johnny Jump Ups donated by Spring Garden Farms Inc., Route 724, Birdsboro, and forsythia wrapped with purple and green ribbon donated by gardener Debra Hahn.

The volunteers served the guests tea sandwiches and baked goods (donated by Gloria) on trays butler style. A self service table with iced tea, cheese and crackers and other treats was also prepared..

I told the gathering, ‘This is the people’s paper. We want to interact more intensely with the people of the community. On the Record is the public forum. The public is invited to respond to written columns or initiate local topics or interest and concern or share ideas of pressing national interest.’

Writer of ‘On the Record Column’ on and off since 2002, I displayed scrapbooks of articles and columns with pages of reader replies that have been published over the years. These were actively reviewed by the quests.

Several people brought up the concern about the local police chief and expressed an interest to have residents voice their comments ‘On the Record’. The topic of home and cyber schooling were other areas of interest.

Bringing together the newspaper and the citizens indeed was a good fit with the library to echo Carol Donahue’s words.
