Garden Spot High School held its commencement ceremony for the Class of 2014 June 6.

Principal Matthew Sanger, Class Advisor Mrs. Jamie Clement and the rest of the Garden Spot administration celebrated the past and future accomplishments of the graduating seniors as they move on to future endeavors, during the ceremony held in the Garden Spot High School Gymnasium, New Holland.

Graduation speaker Nicholas Good gave a speech entitled ‘Dedication to Self-Belief’. He thanked the High School’s administration, counselors, teachers, parents and colleagues before noting the importance of dedication, self-belief and belief in each other in making it so far. He noted that this unity was tested by adversity, saying, ‘With the deaths of Mrs. Laub, Mrs. Marchini and Mrs. Rupp, our belief in ourselves was pushed to the tipping point. Our fate was finally tested, though, when Garden Spot’s role model, Mr. Ed Sprecher, died of the incurable disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as the infamous Lou Gehrig’s Disease.’

He went on to conclude his speech by stating that ‘As we separate on our own paths this evening, remember, we are ambassadors of Garden Spot. We are a team. We are Spartans.’

Student Body President Holly Schnader presented a graduation speech, saying, ‘I hope that each and every one of you can shoot for the moon and make it there; everyone deserves to have their dreams come true. Congratulations again,’ before wishing each of her classmates a ‘long and happy life.’
