The volunteers of the Gilbertsville, PA-based charity Happy 2 Be Home (H2BH) are gearing up provide a wheelchair-accessible bathroom for 4-year-old Ethan Schwartz.
Ethan and his family continue to battle complications caused by congenital heart defects, including a 2011 cardiac arrest that led to a severe anoxic brain injury. The family’s fundraising goal is to modify their home in order to provide ongoing, day-to-day care for Ethan.
To support the H2BH project, Ethan’s family is organizing the 2nd Annual Ethan’s Heart Journey Walkathon, set for Sunday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to noon at the West Vincent Township Park in Chester Springs, Pa.
All members of the community are invited to attend or to support the family through donations via methods listed below.
Funds raised through the walkathon will defray the cost of materials and labor to update the family’s Gilbertsville, Pa., residence. H2BH will be creating a wheelchair-accessible bathroom; other much-needed renovations include conversion of a room on the first floor into a bedroom, installation of a ceiling track system to help get Ethan from his chair to his bed, and the building of a wheelchair ramp to access the house.
