(Kutztown, PA)- Following the traditions of the region, Kutztown Fair is hosting the first POTPIE COOKOFF. On Thursday August 16. Individuals, Groups & Organizations, and Professional Cooking personnel are encouraged to enter. These 3 categories will compete for a $75 cash prize, a large rosette and bragging rights.
Individuals and Groups can prepare and serve their own homemade POTPIE for a chance to win the title of Grand Champion POTPIE Chef . A panel of judges will evaluate the entries for taste, flavor, consistency, texture, and presentation. This contest is your interpretation of POTPIE. As part of the contest, fair goers will have the chance to purchase tickets to sample the entries. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of POTPIE Cook-off tickets will go to the American Cancer Society of Berks County.
The contest will be held as follows: Individuals – open to any exhibitor that does not have formal training or experience in food service; Groups – open to any church, grange, 4H or other civic organization; and the third category is Professional – open to any restaurateur or food service staff. The actual food preparation must be done at home or in the kitchen of the group. The competitors will be allowed to enter the Beer Garden of the Kutztown Fair at 3 pm to set up their station and prepare for the judging. Serving: After an initial serving to the judges, the contestant should be prepared to serve at least 8 quarts to the attending/paying public small samples. Sample dishes and forks/spoons will be provided by the Fair.
Judging will begin at: 4 pm in the Beer Garden, located on the Kutztown Fairgrounds.
Registration:(1) Entries are limited. (2) Pre-registration is required. TO enter, send the following information: * Name of the Chef/Group/or Restaurant, name of the recipe, Contact person name, address, and email address. You can enter by mailing your information and entry fee to Kutztown PotPie Cookoff, 2505 Moselem Springs Rd, Fleetwood, PA 19522 or email your entry information to info@kutztownfairgrounds.com then mail your $7 entry fee.
* Confirmation of acceptance to the contest will be emailed once your entry fees are received.
* Each entry must be homemade, from scratch, using as many Pennsylvania Preferred ingredients as possible. Pennsylvania Preferred items can include but are not limited to – meats, dairy, eggs, flour, butter, etc…
* All entries are to be prepared at home, and brought to the Kutztown Fairgrounds for serving. Electric will be available for roasters and or crock pots.
* Fair goers will be encouraged to purchase tickets to sample the entries. Each contestant must be prepared to serve an additional 8 quarts of POTPIE to fair attendees. The FAIR will provide serving dishes and spoons.
Presentation: The exhibitor will need to present a standard plated course of their entry to the panel of judges. The presentation must fit on a standard size lunch tray (9’x20′) but cannot exceed this size. The exhibitor must provide everything they need/want to use in the presentation to the judges. The judge’s decision is final.

In addition to the rides, and shows, there will be thousands of animals on display, along with hundreds of quilts, cookies, flowers, hay, tomatoes, clothing, photographs and artwork.
