Seniors at Daniel Boone High School swapped roles Saturday, Sept. 27 as the girls took to the football field for a game and the boys grabbed their pom-poms. The annual Powder Puff game was on its way.

Every year Daniel Boone’s senior girls play each other in the Powder Puff game, a game of flag football, Pink vs. Purple. The two teams practiced to get ready for the game. The senior boys then have an opportunity to be the cheerleaders at this game making preparations for the half-time show.

On Friday, Sept. 26 Daniel Boone’s halls were decked out in pink and purple streamers, the participating senior girls wore their jerseys, and the boys donned their cheerleading uniforms. The girl’s purple and pink jerseys all sported the number fifteen for the year of their graduation, 2015. The boy’s uniforms included some fantastic purple or pink tights and black football T-shirts.

The school was buzzing with excitement for the game. The girls from opposite teams poked fun at each other as they passed in the halls. You could hear students constantly asking friends if they were going to the event.

As Saturday night rolled around the bleachers were filled with students, parents, and teachers. The girls took to the field running through their respected color’s banner. As the game got underway Pink scored early to put a lead over purple. By the time the first half was finished the score was 22 to 8 with Pink in the lead.

The half time show performed by the senior boys was quite a spectacle. The boys cheered, danced and even performed stunts lifting each other into the air. The fans loved it and everyone could not stop laughing.

‘My favorite part was performing in front of the crowd! It was a great experience,’ Andrew Durso, Powder Puff cheerleader, said.

By the end of the game the Purple team was not able to come back and the game’s final score ended with Pink team 29, Purple team 16. Both teams had lots of fun.

‘Powder Puff is an experience I will never forget in my high school years. I have looked forward to this event since I was a freshman. It was fun to face my friends in some friendly competition. Plus, it was great bonding with girls for my team,’ Ashlynn Danner, Purple team member, said.

The Powder Puff game is a great tradition at Daniel Boone High School and this year’s game was a great success.
