RecurringCenterport Lions Club: Jamming Sessions will be held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. All musicians welcome.

Senior Citizens Club of Hamburg: The Hamburg Seniors meet at 2 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Hamburg Area Middle School cafeteria. If school is canceled on the meeting day because of bad weather, the meeting is canceled.

Hamburg Public Library Story Time: The Hamburg Public Library has story time on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 11 a.m. for ages 18 months through 3 years old, preschoolers and home schooled early elementary. The schedule is available on the library’s website at www.berks.lib.pa.us/hamburgpl.

Hamburg Public Library Board Meetings: Library board meetings are held the second Tuesdays except July. Public encouraged to attend.

Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living: 120 W. Fifth Street, Boyertown, hosts a monthly family support group for those who are coping with Alzheimer’s disease. It is affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association and is held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

Feb. 12Hamburg Area Historical Society: Because of school scheduling, The Hamburg Area Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on the Second Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Hamburg Area High School LGI room. Terry Boyer from 1860 Wood Co. will present “A Master Craftsman -Researching and Designing the Past.” Terry makes miniature houses to scale. We will not meet if the school is closed because of weather conditions.

Feb. 14Snowshoeing with Your Sweetie on Valentine’s Day: Starting at 1 p.m., at the Kernsville Dam Recreation Area, Monument Parking Lot. Even if you don’t have a sweetie, you’ll have a sweet time at this new fun-filled winter program. If you’ve ever been interested in snowshoeing and wanted to learn what it is all about, then join us for this specially designed program for beginners. Snowshoe sizing and proper fit will be discussed. More importantly, participants will learn how to move in them. If there’s no snow on the ground – or not enough snow – we’ll still gather for a nice mid-winter hike along the beautiful trail. Participants can bring their own snowshoes; we’ll also have some available for “trial on the trail.” Another option: Cross-country ski kits and snowshoes can be rented at Buckman’s Ski Shop in Muhlenberg Township (610-678-5960). Feeder Frenzy: Beat cabin fever, head to Hawk Mountain! Free. Trail fee applies for non members.

Beat cabin fever and head to Hawk Mountain for a day-long event focused on feeding birds during the long winter months. Program includes two live raptor programs, a guided winter walk, two children’s crafts, free information on different seed and winter bird identification, and complimentary bird friendly coffee and hot cocoa. A great excuse to get moving!

11 a.m. – Live Raptor Program, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Bird Feeder Interpretation, Noon to 2 p.m. – Kids Crafts (Heart-shaped critter crafts and Pinecone birdfeeders), 12:30 p.m. – Winter Bird Walk, 2 p.m. – Live Raptor Program.

Sample bird friendly coffee and learn more about Hawk Mountain’s status as a Pennsylvania Conservation Partner for Birds and Beans. Different activity may be substituted for bird walk in event of poor outdoor conditions.

Shartlesville Fire Company Breakfast: Shartlesville Fire Company will be hosting a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at its Bingo Hall located on Main St./Old Rt. 22 Shartlesville. It is a full Breakfast Menu and all proceeds benefit the Fire Equipment Fund.

18th Century Pennsylvania German Ice Harvesting Demo: At 2:30 p.m., the Dreibelbis Farm Historical Society will host a presentation of 18th century Pennsylvania German ice harvesting at the Historic Dreibelbis Farm in Virginville. The demonstration will include cutting and harvesting ice blocks from the ice pond, hauling the ice to the ice house, loading the ice house, and a demonstration of the actual tools used. A bonfire and hot chocolate will be available after the presentation, and the farm grounds and nature trail will be open to the public.

The event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine, with only blizzard conditions cancelling. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and be prepared to walk on an unpaved, farm lane.

The Historic Dreibelbis Farm is located on Route 143 south of the village of Virginville. GPS Address: 356 Hard Hill Road, Hamburg, PA. Parking is available on-site.

The Ice Harvesting Demonstration is the first of several events to be hosted in 2015 by the DFHS, to fulfill their mission to preserve and protect the historic Dreibelbis farm and to make it available to the public for educational, historical, and environmental purposes. Other events, such as the annual Wetlands and Wildflowers Walk, a Spring Peeper Walk, and the fourth annual Historic Farm Festival will be held in coming months.

Geo-Caching and Winter Scavenger Hunt: From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Visitor Center. Beat cabin fever with two outdoor activities. Snow date is Sunday, Feb. 22. FREE with trail fee.

Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. Bundle up and make the trip Hawk Mountain to test your skills at geo-caching. Whether you’re a pro or you’ve never heard of it, we’ll set you up for a good time, and provide both an easy and a challenging trek. Also available will be a winter scavenger hunt, with an option designed for adults and another for children.

For those interested in the geo-caching, participants can work alone or as a group. A limited number of GPS units will be available for use, so partipants are encouraged to bring their own, if possible. Other items to bring include: Warm, Layered Clothing, Digital Camera or camera phone, Handheld GPS unit if you have one, Pencil/Pen, Yak Trax or shoes with good grip. Trails have been ice.

Chicken Pot Pie Dinner: The Hamburg Grange #2103 is holding an All-You-Can-Eat Homemade Chicken Pot Pie Dinner to benefit the SAVE OUR STRAND CAMPAIGN. Bake sale also on premises. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hamburg Area High School. There is a cost for dinner. Take-out available. March 14Geocaching – A Beginner’s Guide: At Blue Marsh Dry Brooks Day Use area on the beach beginning at 1 p.m. Join staff from parks and the lake along with experienced geocachers as everyone navigates through a beginner’s course. The basics of geocaching will be explained and participants will discover geocaches hidden around Blue Marsh Lake. Come prepared with appropriate outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
