#GirlPOP2015 to draw over 3,000 local girls for all-female convention; Explore real-life experiences shared by girls

An anticipated crowd of more than 3,000 girls and adults will attend #GirlPOP2015, Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania all-girls meetup at the Pennsylvania Convention Center May 16.

In 2012, GSEP hosted the “Century of the Girl” Expo held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts. GSEP anticipates a larger and more diverse attendance at its upcoming event, which is open to all girls – not just Girl Scouts. Keynote presentations and breakout sessions featuring phenomenal women and girl leaders will celebrate the power of girls to change the world.

Among the list of featured speakers are News correspondent and Chair of UNICEF’s Next Generation Jenna Bush Hager in conversation with Former Seventeen Magazine editor-in-chief Ann Shoket; Shiza Shahid, Malala Fund CEO and co-founder; Eleven year-old Vivienne Harr, Chief Inspiration Officer for STAND Technologies, who raised more than $100,000 to fight child slavery with her traveling lemonade stand; Fashion Designer and “Project Runway” Season 12 winner Dom Streater; Coder and Founder of The Hacktory, Georgia Guthrie; Julie Smolyansky, CEO and President of Lifeway Foods and the youngest-ever female CEO of a publicly-traded company; and Power 99 Philly media personality Mina SayWhat and “Sincerely Syreeta” blogger Syreeta Martin.

Entertainment will be provided by singers Matthew Schuler and Audra McLaughlin, as seen on the hit NBC show “The Voice.”

#GirlPOP2015 will address real-world topics that impact girls both locally and around the world. Breakout sessions will focus on topics including social media, health and wellness, global girls’ issues, positive body image and self-esteem, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and more. By meeting and learning from influential leaders, girls will explore how they too can make an impact. Sessions about positive parenting and raising and mentoring 21st-century girls will also be offered for adults.

For over 100 years, Girl Scouts has empowered girls and provided them with valuable leadership experiences. We hope that this exciting and educational day will inspire all girls to do anything they choose, by showing them real-life examples of other girls and women who have done so.”

Between now and March 16, tickets to #GirlPOP2015 are for sale exclusively to GSEP members. Non-members are invited to purchase their ticket and become a member for an additional charge. Membership is valid through September 2015 and offers access to GSEP’s camps and programs. After March 16, tickets will be for sale to the general public. Purchase tickets at www.gsep.org/girlpop.
