RecurringCenterport Lions Club: Jamming Sessions will be held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. All musicians welcome.

Senior Citizens Club of Hamburg: The Hamburg Seniors meet at 2 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Hamburg Area Middle School cafeteria. If school is canceled on the meeting day because of bad weather, the meeting is canceled.

Hamburg Public Library Story Time: The Hamburg Public Library has story time on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 11 a.m. for ages 18 months through 3 years old, preschoolers and home schooled early elementary. The schedule is available on the library’s website at www.berks.lib.pa.us/hamburgpl.

Hamburg Public Library Board Meetings: Library board meetings are held the second Tuesdays except July. Public encouraged to attend.

Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living: 120 W. Fifth Street, Boyertown, hosts a monthly family support group for those who are coping with Alzheimer’s disease. It is affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association and is held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

April 1 through May 15Spring Migration Watch: Welcome returning raptors, daily, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary North Lookout. Join the official counter at North Lookout to watch for returning raptor migrants and other birds. Staff, trainees and volunteers will be on hand to help you spot and identify what you see so it’s a great time to learn more about the migration and in-flight ID tips. Peak is April 15-22. Trail fee applies.

May 1, 2 & 3Warbler Weekend: From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Pick a day (or more!) and join a Hawk Mountain naturalist on a guided walk in pursuit of wood warblers and other migrants in forests at the base of Hawk Mountain. Bring binoculars and field guides. Registration required: 610-756-6961. Map to meeting site will be emailed and also discussed by phone. There is a cost, limited to 20 people for ages 12 and up.

May 1Local to Global Raptorthon: From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary North Lookout. Join Dr. Laurie Goodrich for a local to global RAPTORTHON to benefit long-term raptor monitoring programs at HMANA and Hawk Mountain, and habitat conservation for migratory hawks. During her last Raptorthon Laurie recorded 10 species of raptors and this year she hopes to see even more.

Plow Day: Schuylkill County Agricultural Museum is sponsoring Plow Day 2015. Hosted by Fehr Field Farms, Ferreby Road Pine, Grove, Plow Day will be held May 2 with a rain date of May 9. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and Plowing to begin at 10 a.m. Plowing demonstrations using antique tractors, horses and mules will be done throughout the day. There will be a judged plowed competition at 205 Ferreby Road. The event is free and all are welcome to come. Since this is a free event, donations will be greatly appreciated. An Ernst Conservation Seeds Native Plant Lecture: At Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Visitor Center from 5 to 6 p.m. With 30 years of garden writing for media, including The New York Times, Anne Raver will share her favorite gardens and public spaces from the garden trail, which has taken her across the country, down the Amazon, and up to the Arctic Circle, and from North Carolina woodlands brimming over with snowdrops to the Brooklyn Bridge Park. A very rare treat to listen and learn from a gardening guru, this talk and slideshow will be followed by a book signing. Fee for non-members.

May 2 & 3The Reading Family and Pet Festival: Outdoor event returns to Berks County at the Reading Fairgrounds/County Complex, Hilltop and County Roads in Leesport. It will be held Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Full Moon Walk to South Lookout: At Hawk Mountain Sanctuary from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration required, limited to 15 people. Join Hawk Mountain educators for a fully-guided and moderate, two-hour walk by moonlight. This excursion covers one mile of rugged, natural terrain that also does have a gradual incline. Revisiting the Canals of Berks County: At 2 p.m. Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Township. Canal Historian Glenn Wenrich presents a slide-illustrated journey comparing the Schuylkill Navigation System and the Union Canal financial successes and contributions to Berks and beyond. May 6Wee One’s Walk: At Hawk Mountain Sanctuary at 10 a.m. There is a cost for non-members. Designed for children ages 3 to 5, this program is a great way to get young people interested in spending more time outdoors. The group will join an educator for a children’s story and nature activity followed by a short outdoor hike and culminating craft. Each month’s Wee One’s Walk will have a new theme linked to seasonal changes the kids can see and experience. Children should dress for weather, and registration is required by calling 610-756-6961. May 7Hamburg Area Historical Society: Corrie Crupi from Pagoda-Skyline Inc. will present a slide show on the history of Mount Penn and the Pagoda at the Hamburg Area Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. on at the LGR in the Hamburg Area High School.

Wildflower Walk along the Union Canal: From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Township. “Porcupine Pat” McKinney of the Schuylkill Valley Conservation District will share some intriguing folklore and will identify a variety of spring wildflowers along the trail. Curious about wild ginger? Wonder why dandelions are considered a weed? Porcupine Pat will clue you in and you’ll leave with lots of knowledge to impress your friends – and maybe even win a trivia game down the road! This program is geared to teens and adults.
