RecurringCenterport Lions Club: Jamming Sessions will be held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. All musicians welcome.

Senior Citizens Club of Hamburg: The Hamburg Seniors meet at 2 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Hamburg Area Middle School cafeteria. If school is canceled on the meeting day because of bad weather, the meeting is canceled.

Chestnut Knoll Assisted Living: 120 W. Fifth Street, Boyertown, hosts a monthly family support group for those who are coping with Alzheimer’s disease. It is affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association and is held on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

Detox Hatha Yoga: Sundays through September from 11 a.m. to Noon at Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Township. Enjoy the outdoors (when weather permits) while rejuvenating through the ancient science of yoga with a PSU fitness instructor who is Yoga Alliance registered. June 3Wee Ones Walk: At 10 a.m. at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Visitor Center Gallery. FREE for members, there is a cost for non-members. Designed for children ages 3 to 5, this program is a great way to get young people interested in spending more time outdoors. The group will join an educator for a children’s story and nature activity followed by a short outdoor hike and culminating craft. Each month’s Wee One’s Walk will have a new theme linked to seasonal changes the kids can see and experience. Children should dress for weather, and registration is required by calling 610-756-6961. Limited to 15 participants. Additional Wee One’s Walks are scheduled for: Wednesday, Aug. 5 and Wednesday, Sept. 2. Consider signing up for several walks at one time.

June 6Shoemakersville Children’s Parade and Fair: Parade starts at 11 a.m. at 8th and Park Street. Registration at 10 a.m. Carnival in the park to follow end of the parade until 4 p.m. Traditional carnival games, food, prizes, bounce houses, petting zoo, face painting, entertainment, Chinese auction and more. Come out for the 64th annual event and help celebrate the 250th birthday of Shoemakersville.

June 12The 18th Annual Golf Tournament: To benefit St. Mary R. C. Church, Hamburg, will be held at Green Acres Golf Course, Bernville. This year’s Tournament includes a Hole-in-One and other contests. Reservations are still open. There is a cost which includes greens fee, cart, hot dogs and beverages on the course and a steak or chicken dinner following play. Wine & Cheese Train: Wannamaker, Kempton and Southern Railroad. Enjoy a leisurely evening train ride with us and sample some of the fine wines and cheeses of the real Pennsylvania Dutch Country. This event will feature wines from Long Trout Winery and cheeses from the BAD Farm. Each passenger will receive a complimentary wine glass as a memento of the trip. Paddle and Pedal Along the Tully No. 1: From 4 to 7 p.m. at Blue Marsh Lake (Stilling Basin) 1268 Palisades Drive, Bern Township. Join 3D Outdoor Rental and Parks staff for outdoor recreational fun as we kayak down the creek and then bike along the trail. Beginning at the Stilling Basin at Blue Marsh Lake, participants will paddle the creek to the iconic Red Bridge then stop for a snack break. Next, they will hop on bikes and pedal back to the start via the Union Canal Towpath Trail, making this an approximately eight-mile round-trip. Kayaks and bikes can be reserved through 3D Outdoor Rental or participants can bring their own. Life jackets, bike helmets and ACA insurance are required. The trip is limited to 20 boaters with paddling experience, and requires registration with payment by June 8. The cost of the program is payable to 3D Outdoor Rental (which includes kayak and bike rental as well as ACA insurance. To register, call 610-488-1900.

June 14Hamburg Grange: Berks County Junior Grange Fundraiser at Hoss’s.

Meet the Berks County Association for Graveyard Preservation: At 2 p.m. at Berks County Heritage Center, 1102 Red Bridge Road, Bern Township. The Berks County Association for Graveyard Preservation has a mission to restore historic family burial plots that have been abandoned or neglected. This group of volunteers offers assistance to individuals, family associations, and property owners to bring back dignity to the family burial plot. A PowerPoint presentation by the BCAGP will explain the group’s work and how volunteers can get involved. This program is presented by the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department and Spring Township Parks and Recreation. June 20Hamburg Garden Tour: The Hamburg Community Wildlife Habitat Project Committee is holding its fourth annual Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The gardens are certified through the National Wildlife Federation’s Backyard Wildlife Habitat Program. The tour will begin at the pavilion in the Hamburg Park at the corner of Island and 2nd Streets. Door prizes will be drawn at the same location at 1:30 p.m. (winners must be present to win). Advanced sale tickets can be purchased at the Our Town Foundation office, 335 State Street or at the State Farm office, 124 S. 3rd Street, both of which are in Hamburg. Tickets will also be on sale the day of the tour.

Strawberry Festival: St. John’s Lutheran Church/Thrivent, Hamburg, will hold its annual STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL from 3-8 p.m. at the Hamburg Field House, Pine St., Hamburg. Rain or shine. Music by JALAPPA ALLSTARS. Strawberries and ice cream, homemade baked goods, soup, FF, BBQ, etc.

Baltimore Aquarium Bus Trip or Free Day in Baltimore: Leaves Hamburg High School, 701 Windsor St., Hamburg. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cost for tickets including admission to aquarium or cost for tickets for free day in Baltimore. Enjoy a day exploring Baltimore Harbor, or plan to include a visit to the Baltimore Aquarium. The bus will drop off at the Visitors Center in Baltimore. Night of the Moth: From 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Visitor Center. A summer evening attracting and observing moths. Presented by Ken Lebo and Jim Eckert. There is a cost. Limited to 20 participants. Registration required: Call 610-756-6961. Learn more about moths and how to identify these creatures of the night from our expert presenters. You’ll spend this summer evening attracting and observing moths at a “trapping station” and learn why these insects play such an important role in the forest ecosystem. Wear dark clothing and bring a dim flashlight. Field guide is optional.

Touch a Train Day: Wannamaker, Kempton and Southern Railroad. Here’s an opportunity to get an up-close look at trains and railroad equipment! Different pieces of equipment will be available for children to look at and see at close range. Steam locomotive 65 will be parked on a siding, and children can climb in the cab (with railroad supervision) for photos. Reservations are not required. “Run To The Rock”: A 10K, 5K or 2.5K Trail Race. The challenging 10K course starts on the Etchberger Trail at the Hamburg Community Park. It runs south to the old Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, crosses the Schuylkill River and continues onto the Therman Madiera Switchback running north along the west bank of the Schuylkill. The course continues through the Desilting Basin on the Cabela’s Wetlands Trail to the Monument Parking Lot, then turns north onto Kernsville Dam Road and continues to the Lowlands Trail. It continues on the Lowlands Trail along the Schuylkill River to the Kernsville Dam, where it continues north on Kernsville Dam Road to the Pulpit Rock Trail. It continues north along the Schuylkill River to “The Rock,” where it doubles back to the Kernsville Dam Road, to the Therman Madiera Switchback and the Etchberger Trail, finishing at the Hamburg Community Park. Race length is 10 kilometers and change in elevation is about 50 feet.

The 5K course starts in the parking lot of the Hamburg Community Park and runs to the Etchberger Trail, and then runs south to the old Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, crosses the Schuylkill River and continues onto the Therman Madiera Switchback running north along the west bank of the Schuylkill. Race length is 5 kilometers and change in elevation is about 25 feet.

The 2.5K course starts in the parking lot of the Hamburg Community Park and runs to the Etchberger Trail, and then runs south to the old Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, crosses the Schuylkill River and continues onto the Therman Madiera Switchback running north along the west bank of the Schuylkill. The course doubles back at the I-78 Bridge and retraces its path along the Therman Madiera Switchback and the Etchberger Trail, finishing at the Hamburg Community Park. Race length is 2.5 kilometers and change in elevation is about 25 feet.

This event is the third and final event in the series of three race events. All BMW Trail Races Series Races have great courses; registrant goodie bags; cash prizes for the fastest male and female racers in the long races and a generous slate of awards for all races; DJ Steel Thunder providing post-race entertainment; plenty of drinks, fruit and baked goodies to replenish the body; post-race activities for the kids; free hot lunch for all participants and volunteers; door prize drawings; and plenty of Trail Race Series and BMW gear for purchase.
