Important weather announcement from organizers: Due to weather, the survivor ceremony will happen at 6 p.m. under the pavilion. At 8 p.m. the event will move to Junior High West for the luminaria ceremony. “If you’ve gone home please come out to see this inspiring (And dry) ceremony. We will then close for the night. All must vacate the park. We will resume at 6 a.m.”

Boyertown’s eighth annual Relay for Life will take place on Saturday, June 27, through Sunday, June 28. This year’s goal for Relay for Life is $218,000 – more than $149,500 has already been raised.

A portion of the money that is raised from this event goes directly to the American Cancer Society, while some of it will also stay in Berks County and will be used throughout Boyertown and Oley Valley. Some of it also goes to cancer research throughout the country.

According to organizers, the purpose of the Relay for Life of Boyertown is to fight for life, to find cures, and most importantly, to save lives.

This event will be held at the Boyertown Community Park on South Madison Street.

This year’s theme for the relay is “It’s A Small World Filled With Hope.”

There are many activities for attendees to get involved in, and there will also be several ceremonies inlcuding a Fight Back ceremony, which will feature Sue Kochu of Save Sue’s Ta-ta’s. Kochu will be discussing her current fight with cancer, along with her husband, Jim Kochu.

An Advocacy ceremony, a Survivor/Caregiver ceremony, and a Luminaria ceremony (at 9 p.m. on Saturday) will be held. Other features include a disc golf tournament, Zumba, a sunrise worship service, and of course the parade for the relay teams. Aside from these events, there will also be food, beverages, games, raffles, and arts and crafts at the team campsites in the park. There will also be a collection for canned good, so please feel free to bring one to drop off.

The event is free, and open to the public. Handicap parking will be available, and general parking will be at Boyertown Junior High West. Registration will be open through the event. Currently, 44 teams and more than 500 participants are registered.
