DOUGLASSVILLE >> The Mouns Jones Plantation Day at Morlatton Village will be held Saturday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine). The Early Riverside Settlement Event, sponsored by the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County, offers a look into the past.

The event includes plantation history, an herb garden presentation, shingle and tile roofing display, blacksmithing demonstration, tours of early building, the historic amity village store, archaeological dig, amity colonial dancers, Mouns Jones house masonry wall restoration, open hearth-cooking and a Native American cultural display.

Plantation lunch options (all with stone-ground wheat biscuits) include: Brunswick chicken stew for $8, pork and beans for $8, root cellar vegetarian stew for $7 and Mouns Jones vegetable soup for $5.

There is also a children’s menu and summer sides and homemade desserts.

Volunteers are needed for 2 or 3 hour shifts for event-site and shuttle-lot staffing, guides shuttle-bus parking for event at Kiwi Lot on Route 662 (447 Old Swedes Road, Douglassville).

There is bicycle and pedestrian access from Thun Trail behind George Douglass House Admission is $8. Children 12 and younger are free.
