On Saturday, February 6, Mifflin Community Library welcomes families for fun activities from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on National Take Your Child to the Library Day.

These fun activities are planned to encourage families to visit the library to explore the books, media, programs, educational resources, and the sense of community offered at Mifflin Community Library. All day families are invited to play life-sized Candyland where mini-games, crafts and photo booth fun put you right into the game. At 10:00 a.m., join in a special storytime about books and reading, and then at 11:00, meet Candyland’s Queen Frostine from Ever After Costumed Entertainment and receive a frozen treat.

Get door prize tickets during the first hour of the morning. Drawing will be at start of storytime. Must be present to win.

Take Your Child to the Library Day (TYCLD) is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. Launched in 2011 in Connecticut by librarians Nadine Lipman (Waterford Public Library, retired) and Caitlin Augusta (Stratford Library) with artist Nancy Elizabeth Wallace, TYCLD raises community awareness about the importance of the library in the life of a child, and promotes library services and programs for children and families. The official hashtag for the event is #TakeYourChildtotheLibraryDay.

Part of Berks County Public Libraries, Mifflin Community Library is located at 6 Philadelphia Avenue in Shillington (Philadelphia Ave. and Lancaster Ave. intersection). The library offers a variety of materials for check out and reference, weekly storytimes, computers for patron use, free computer workshops and other programs including Summer Reading and a Summer Concert Series.
