It wouldn’t be August without Building a Better Boyertown’s annual Dog Days of August.

The community is invited to come out into the streets with their canines for this dog-friendly event on Saturday, Aug. 20.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be activities on N. Chestnut Street including live music, doggie pools, free nail clipping, food vendors, doggie pretzels and more. Attendees are encouraged to explore the downtown by following the trail of water bowls set out by local participating businesses.

As a part of the festivities – Studio B Fine Art Gallery invites dog owners to bring their dogs on Saturday to have their photos taken by Tammy Snyder, professional dog photographer, admire the exhibit of dog illustrations by fine artist and photographer Sharon Merkel, and submit a favorite photograph of their dogs for the inaugural Dog Selfie contest.

Snyder will create a 4 x 6 photograph featuring four poses with dogs and their owners. The photographs will be printed at the studio and available for $10 each.

Owners can then submit them or any other photograph they bring to the studio for a pop up exhibit of Dog Selfies. Juror is Debbie Bertolet, dog lover and executive director of Boyertown’s Museum of Historic Vehicles. Winners will be determined by 3 p.m. on August 21, 2016, and posted on Studio B’s Facebook page.

Sharon Merkel will be creating/demonstrating her skills in illustrations of dogs, and Studio B is hosting a contest and exhibit of Dog Selfies with prizes offered by Dancing Tree Creations and Artisans Studio.

Outdoors, Studio B will have treats and water outside for dogs.
