Building a Better Boyertown (BBB) is getting ready to hold its 9th annual Oktoberfest. The event will kick off Friday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m. offering a variety of beers, wines from the local area and beyond, and an assortment of food vendors will be on site to satisfy every person’s taste. The event continues on Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at 11 a.m. and winding down at 9 p.m.

Just as the people of Bavaria gathered each September two hundred years ago to celebrate the harvest, Building a Better Boyertown has hosted its own Oktoberfest celebration here in the heart of our small community, for the past nine years. Boyertown’s Oktoberfest remains true to the original German Oktoberfest celebration by providing a market for local craftsman to display and sell their wares as well as providing entertainment and refreshments for those that attend.

This event has provided the funds for BBB to engage in projects and activities that enhance and promote Downtown Boyertown and the greater Boyertown area. This year, BBB will, once again, hold Oktoberfest over a two day, fun – filled celebration. On Friday, Sept. 16, from 5-9 p.m., please join the BBB in the Town Center Parking Lot as we kick off our weekend festivities. Food concessions will be available from local vendors and music from local DJ, Kenny Productions, who will offer Karaoke this year for all interested on Friday evening.

Just as the Mayor of Munich opens the official Oktoberfest celebration, Boyertown’s own Mayor and Council President will arrive via horse-drawn carriage at 11:00 AM, September 17th for the ceremonial “tapping of the keg”. This year’s entertainment has been expanded and includes something for everyone: 12 p.m. – Hanna Violet Trio will start the event off. At 2 p.m. The Boyertown Alumni Band will be performing, followed by the Auerhahn Schuhplattlers, who will dance us back to historical Bavaria with performances at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. At 4 p.m. The Schuhplatters will join us to host the 1st Annual Miss and Mr. Oktoberfest contest. Closing out the evening will be MudPuppy, starting at 6 p.m.

If you are hungry during Oktoberfest some of our food vendors include: Sweet Beginnings, Hillbilly Barbecue, CD’s Place, The Grill Shop, J-Walkers Funnel Cake, The Firefly Cafe, Kiwanis, OMG Smoothies and Philly Pretzels. And of course, what would an Oktoberfest be without a variety of your favorite beverages to accompany the food. Beer will be supplied by Rader Co, and The Other Farm Brewery.. Wine will be provided by Blair Vineyards, Frecon Farms, and Manatawny Creek Winery.

Building a Better Boyertown will be offering two choices of drinking vessels this year. In addition to the authentic German Souvenir beer mugs they will also be offering clear glass steins. Both the mug and the steins can be purchased at the event or prior to the event at Patsy’s Potpourri of Gifts, Serenity Fitness and Wellness, or the Building a Better Boyertown office.

Building a Better Boyertown invites you to come celebrate Boyertown’s German heritage. Bring friend and family and enjoy a festive early September weekend under our Oktoberfest tents, browsing authentic crafts, or sampling the treats in our food vendor alley.
