It’s hard to believe that the Turning Leaf Fall Festival is turning 9 years old this year.
The October event has become one of the community’s favorite Parks & Rec activities. Looking back, there have been many changes, but, from it’s earliest days in the ice-rink and along Scoop’s Way Turning Leaf has continuously delivered massive amounts fun, food and music. The move taking the festival out of the parking lot and putting it under the trees has perhaps been the most favorite change with festival goers, while making the hours somewhat shorter has made the bands a little happier, some still remember the mid-thirty degree temperatures for the final band in 2008.
Saturday, Oct. 8, promises to be another great adventure in the beautiful Boyertown Park. Starting things off the Boyertown Rotary will host a 5K. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and the starting gun is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Hang around after the race to watch the Turning Leaf Fall Festival bring the park to life with the sounds of fun and music.
The Festival hours this year are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (slightly different than last year). Festival favorites pumpkin painting and scarecrow making are on the schedule again for this year. Last year making caramel apples was a big hit, they sold out quickly so even though quantities were increased for this year it might be a good idea to get there early. Hayrides are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and the Pony Rides start at 3 p.m. (REMEMBER there may be a small cost for some activities and food). Express your feeling of Community by joining the Unity Walk which will be kicking off at 2 p.m. Music has been a driving force of Turning Leaf Fall Festival since the beginning and this year is no exception. Two stages will run all day featuring performances by Middle Class, The 441’s, Quite the Contrary, Special Guest Villains, Voodoo Moon, Steve Walker, Sam Schmidthuber, Ryan Rettew, The Angela Evans Duo and Levi Bone. Take time to enjoy the vendor and crafter displays, maybe play a game or two and enjoy some of the favorite festival foods for sale throughout the park.
The campfire will happen again this year from 5 to 8 p.m. This will be led by St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Plenty of parking is available ($2 donation). And while we never count on rain, the rain date is Sunday Oct. 9. All proceeds go to the Parks & Rec Dept. to fund Turning Leaf and other events throughout the year.
