DOUGLASSVILLE >> The Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County is excited to announce a new spring event at Morlatton Village.

On Saturday, May 13, from 10-4 p.m. there will be a living history festival for the entire family featuring a variety of historic demonstrations by costumed interpreters, activities for children, craft vendors, and wine tastings. Buildings in the village will be open for tours and food will be available for purchase.

Morlatton Village will come alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Volunteers will demonstrate a variety of crafts and trades including textile processing, hearth cooking, and leatherworking. Visitors can learn about gun building and the colonial militia and children will even have the chance to join in the muster. Several of the buildings in the Village will be open for tours, including the White Horse Inn, parts of the George Douglass House, and the Michael Fulp House. Children can have their face painted and enjoy fun, spring-themed activities. Archaeologists will be hard at work at the Mouns Jones House dig site where visitors can learn about the exciting items they have uncovered and their importance to the oldest house in Berks County.

Don’t forget to stop by the White Horse Inn where visitors can enjoy a light lunch in the authentic tavern atmosphere. In the bar room, Ridgewood Winery will be offering complimentary wine tastings. Also in the White Horse, the Amity Colonial Dancers will demonstrate several colonial and Early American dances and visitors can even join in!

Admission is a $10 per person suggested donation. Trust members and children 12 and under are free. Wine tastings will be limited to visitors 21 and older. Rain or shine. Light lunch items and baked goods will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the Trust. Please check our website for updates on the event, including a list of participating crafters.
