BIRDSBORO >> The Woman’s Club of Birdsboro will host tours of the Brooke Mansion on Sunday, May 20, from noon to 6 p.m.
The Brooke Mansion, located at 301 Washington St. in Birdsboro, was built in 1887 by Edward Brooke II and designed by famous architect Frank Furness. This Victorian Queen Anne style mansion contains 36 rooms overall including 19 bedrooms and nine bathrooms. There are 10 fireplaces all in working order and each individually designed by the architect.
The Brooke family last occupied the mansion in 1944. Since then, the mansion has had numerous owners, but has not been open for public tours in 20 years.
“We had a fundraiser 20 years ago offering tours of the Brooke Mansion and was a huge success,” said Jody Ewing, event chairwoman of the Woman’s Club of Birdsboro. “There have been many new people to the area that have expressed interest in seeing the interior of the mansion, so we thought it a good time to offer tours again.”
Admission for the tour is $10.The Woman’s Club of Birdsboro began in 1936. It is a nonprofit organization with the purpose of bettering the community. The women host many events throughout the year including a Car Show and Basket Bingo.
The Woman’s Club also offers various scholarships to Daniel Boone High School seniors. Other beneficiaries of the Woman’s Club of Birdsboro are the Boone Area Library, Birdsboro-Union Fire Department, Birdsboro Police Department, and Birdsboro Community Memorial Center.
