Exeter Township is looking for residents to fill a few board vacancies.
Township Manager Troy Bingaman announced at the Nov. 12 Board of Supervisors meeting that there will be several upcoming vacancies. Multiple positions are to become available on the Economic Development Advisory Committee (EDAC), one position for the zoning hearing board, one position for the sewer authority and possibly one position for the planning commission.
“For the past two years or longer we have discussed do we really need sewer authority. Now there’s a vacancy, maybe now’s the time,” Board of Supervisor Chairman Don Wilson said. “I see it as a cost savings method.”
The Supervisors discussed the option of doing away with the sewer authority to trim costs.
“This board is the final say on things really,” Supervisor Gary Lloyd said. Lloyd explained that the Supervisors have to approve most of the decisions sewer authority passes.
The board prefers all appointments filled prior to the reorganization of boards and commissions by January 2014.
“For example the EDAC meets first Monday of the month,” Bingaman told The Southern Berks News. “We would like to have as many people seated as possible [before the meeting].”
