After three winless seasons in the Central Penn Swimming League, the Exeter High School girls’ swim team finally earned its first league win last year. In fact, the Lady Eagles had three league wins boast. This year, they would love to improve on that total.
‘The team goal is to have a more successful season each year,’ said head coach Jennifer Gundersen. ‘As the team grows, we get more depth which leads to being able to get more points. We’re also hoping to get a relay to districts for the first time ever.’
Leading the team will by Sydney Gundersen, a senior who has qualified for the districts the previous three seasons. She hopes to get back there in a few individual events, and maybe even a relay.
Elizabeth Chemey is a sophomore who was a state qualifier in the 100 backstroke as a freshman. There’s a good chance she’ll be back at the state meet again this year.
Elli Machado is new to the team this year. She’s only a freshman but she should make a big splash on the team. She is an excellent breaststroker and Coach Gundersen believes she has a great chance of qualifying for the districts, and maybe even the state meet.
Morgan Miskovitz is back for her senior year and will be a diver for the Lady Eagles. She did well last year and hopes to be back at the district meet, and then move on to states.
‘A successful season for us will be seeing improvement in all of the swimmers times, getting swimmers to districts and states, and having a relay qualify for districts,’ said Coach Gundersen.
The Lady Eagles open the season at Muhlenberg on Dec. 10 at 4 p.m.
