Three Boy Scouts Chris, Luke and Niko and two Adult Scouters from Troop 183, Blandon, conducted leaf cleanup ofthe enclosed Playground at the former Fleetwood Elementary School and the flower beds at the Fleetwood Middle School, Nov. 23.
This event was conducted on the same weekend as the vast-majority of the troop participated in their annual Appalachian Trail Backpacking hike.
This was the forth project Troop 183 has completed for Fleetwood School District in past nine months. Others includedSpring Trash Cleanup at Fleetwood HS, MS, and at three Elementary Schools, Courtyard Cleanup at Fleetwood Middle School, and trash collection at a recent Home High School Football Game.
In February, the Troop took a BSA “Adopt-a-School-Pledge”. According to http://www.bsaadoptaschool.org/,“The BSA’s National Adopt-a-School Program, is designed to connect Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venture Crews across the country, with schools in their communities.Participating Scouts work within clearly defined guidelines to partner with school administrations and offer volunteer services that most efficiently meet their schools’ needs.Each unit offers their school a minimum, one-year commitment.The hope at the heart of, “Adopt-a-School” is to build strong, sustaining relationships with schools…..creating thousands of lasting community partnerships across the U.S.”
