A single vehicle accident occured at approximately 10:38 a.m. on Christmas Day on Lenape Road near Forgedale Road in Washington Township Berks County.

Eastern Berks Fire Department, Boyertown EMS and Pennsylvania State Police of Reading responded to accident.

According to Paul Bartlett, Info Officer of Eastern Berks Fire Department, the victim extricated himself from a vehicle with heavy damage from impact with a tree. Neighbors tended to the victim until the arrival of emergency personnel.

“Personnel treated the patient, and controlled hazards which included a ruptured battery and a large amount of oil on the roadway,” said Bartlett.

After the patient was transported, and while personnel were cleaning up the scene, Bartlett says the surrounding neighbors delivered a Christmas Day treat to the fire fighters. The first responders were served coffee and hot chocolate, a treat which was greatly welcomed in the cold weather.
