BOYERTOWN – The man who allegedly attacked a woman while she was sleeping is in jail awaiting his preliminary hearing.

Shaun Michael Quinter, 28, of Boyertown, is in the Berks County Prison after being charged with one count of felony aggravated assault, multiple misdemeanors including false imprisonment and unlawful restraint.

Police were alerted to the incident after the victim came to the police department on Dec. 13 around 3:30 p.m. to get a protection from abuse order, police said.

While police were speaking with the victim, they discovered that Quinter came to the house where the victim was around 2 a.m. on Dec. 13, police said.

According to police, Quinter began questioning the victim about her whereabouts and allegedly grew angry with her. When the victim tried to leave the room, Quinter allegedly restrained the victim and prevented her from leaving, police said.

The victim told police Quinter allegedly put his knee on her chest and covered her mouth to prevent her from calling out for help, police said. Quinter then allegedly began to choking the victim, head-butting her and threatening to kill her, police said. Quinter also allegedly pulled out a black pocket knife and told the victim he would ‘cut your throat,’ police said.

Police did not say how, but the victim was able to leave the room and escape to her car where she locked the doors.

The victim said she could not call police at that time because Quinter allegedly took her phone, police said.

Quinter was arraigned by District Judge Michael G. Hartman. His bail was set at $150,000. Quinter is scheduled to appear in court again on Jan. 8, 2014.
