The sound of carolers and the tinkle of bells rang out as the Deck the Brook committee members, sporting Santa hats, went riding in a festive tractor-pulled hay wagon driven by Jim Mimm, Lion’s Club president, through Honey Brook on Dec. 21.
Their wintery journey brought “oohs” and “ahhs” as the judges on board viewed the doors of 30 residences and 11 businesses competing for the recognition and prizes. It was open to the entire community. All entries had previously submitted photos into an online website drop box.
Erica Pennabaker, vice chair of the Honey Brook Community Partnership and M&T Bank Honey Brook Branch Manager, explained, “This project was a collaboration of many organizations within the community. It included the Honey Brook Lions Club, Honey Brook Women’s Club, Honey Brook Historical Society and the Honey Brook Community Partnership. Our overall vision was to help aid in beautifying the town and spreading the holiday spirit throughout the borough and town.”
The event reflected the mission statement of the Honey Brook Community Partnership: bringing together borough and township partners to facilitate communication, share resources and work together to enhance the community.
Pennabaker, who co-chaired the event with Donna Horvath of Honey Brook Golf Course, remarked, “This brought the community back to life for the holiday. More people got caught up in the excitement of the contest. It was a great success.”
The following prizes were awarded: Residential first prize, $100 gift card; second prize, $75 gift card; and third prize, $25 gift card; along with festive gift baskets filled with goodies including Honey Brook items donated by local sponsors. The first place business winner will receive an ad in the Tri County Record in the Honey Brook Buzz section.
