Pennsylvania State Police report that the crash occurred on Route 61 southbound at the intersection of Cabela Drive in Tilden Twp. on Jan. 18 at 8:37 a.m.
Patric W. Boyer, 36, of Schuylkill Haven was traveling south on Route 61 in the far right lane of travel while approaching the intersection of Cabela Drive. Cynthia L. Hendel, 47, of Hamburg, was traveling west on Jetson Drive while approaching the intersection with Route 61. Hendel proceeded through the intersection while having a steady green light. Boyer failed to notice he had a steady red light, proceeded into the intersection and his 1995 Subaru Legacy impacted with Hendel’s 2013 Cruze on its passenger side. After initial impact, Hendel’s vehicle spun in a counter clock wise manner and struck the traffic control device pole with its driver’s side rear panel. After the second impact, the vehicle continued to spin and traveled a short distance where it then struck an embankment which was where it came to final rest. Boyer’s vehicle became disabled in the right lane of travel of Route 61 blocking the lane.
Boyer and his passenger, Shane D. Hatter, 39, of Hegins, were wearing their seat belts and were not injured.
Hendel was not wearing her seat belt and sustained major injury. She was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment by Hamburg EMS.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Trail Towing due to disabling damage.
