15-year-old male referred to Juvenile Court

The Hamburg Borough Police report that a 15-year-old male juvenile from Strausstown, was referred to Juvenile Court for Theft By Unlawful Taking, Theft of Property Lost etc By Mistake, and Receiving Stolen Property. This stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on October 30, 2013 at approx. 1 p.m. in the Hamburg Area High School on Windsor Street in Hamburg.

Man cited for Harassment

The Hamburg Borough Police report that Jeffrey Allen Merkel, 28, from Hamburg, was cited for Harassment. This stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on December 6, 2013 at approx. 11:40 a.m. on Franklin Street near Church Street in Hamburg.

Driver strikes stopped vehicle on Route 61

The Hamburg Borough Police report that a Reportable Traffic Accident occurred on December 27, 2013 at approx. 6:31 p.m. on Route 61 near Grand Street in Hamburg. Milciades Santana-Portes, 32, from Reading, was traveling north on Route 61 and had observed that a vehicle in front of him was stopped at the light. Santana-Portes attempted to turn left to avoid a collision, but instead struck the stopped vehicle which was driven by Curtis Brown, Jr., 52, from Birdsboro. Both drivers had their seat belts on. Santana-Portes was transported to St. Josephs Hospital with minor injuries and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Man arrested for Aggravated Assault

The Hamburg Borough Police report that Justin Howard Heinly, 30, from Hamburg, was arrested for Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Harassment, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest. This stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on Jan. 21 at approx. 5:42 a.m. in the 200 Block of State Street in Hamburg. Heinly assaulted a female, 32, by punching, kicking and choking her. He struggled with police before being taken into custody. Heinly was arraigned before District Judge Kim Bagenstose. He was committed to Berks County Prison. The victim did not receive medical treatment at the time. The officer did not sustain any injuries.
