Fire Alert Berks reported a Norfolk Southern train struck a tractor trailer truck in Fleetwood this morning.

According to reports on Fire Alert of Berks County Facebook page, the train struck the tractor trailer at South Richmond and West Locust in Fleetwood around 10 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Fire Police were ‘dispatched to close Route 662 at Pricetown Road. Car traffic can get through but tractor trailers are being diverted,’ according to Fire Alerts of Berks County.

According to Fleetwood Borough Police Chief Steven Stinsky, officers on scene reported that a container truck was traveling northbound on Richmond Street heading into Fleetwood. The truck was stopping for the train crossing.

‘Exactly what happened is under investigation,’ said Stinsky.

He said the front end of the truck encroached into the path of the train, which was traveling eastbound toward Lyons, when the train struck the front end of the truck.

Stinsky reports that there were no injuries and no hazardous spills.

The scene is anticipated to be cleared in about 45 minutes.
