AMITY An early morning fire in a house along Benjamin Franklin Highway left two families homeless Monday.

According to a spokeswoman at the American Red Cross of Berks County, 10 people from two families were displaced by the fire and receiving aid from the organization. Kara Mowbray said the families received food, clothing and three nights at a hotel through the Red Cross and could receive future assistance if necessary.

The fire was reported at the home on Ben Franklin Highway near Maplewood drive just after midnight.

AMITY An early morning fire left a family without shelter Monday.

According to a witness on scene, fire damaged a home on Ben Franklin Highway near Maplewood Drive in the township after midnight Monday.

The Amity and Monarch fire companies responded and extinguished the blaze.

According to a report on WFMZ-TV, there were at least six people living in the home at the time of the fire, though that could not be immediately confirmed Monday morning.

It was unknown if anyone was injured in the fire.
