EXETER – A woman was taken to the hospital after she was struck by another car while waiting outside of her broken down vehicle Monday morning.

According to Exeter Township Police, a 26-year-old township woman had broken down in the righthand travel lane of the 6300 block of Perkiomen Avenue/Route 422 East. The woman was standing behind her vehicle when she and her car were struck by a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old Blandon man who was driving eastbound, police said. The accident was reported around 5:58 a.m., according to Berks County Dispatch.

The woman was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued from under her vehicle by the Exeter Township Fire Department, police said. She was taken to Reading Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Exeter police shut down the eastbound lanes of Route 422 to investigate the accident. Route 422 east was closed between Lincoln Road and Sunset Manor Drive while the crash was investigated.
