National Penn Bancshares, Inc. has announced a $22,000 contribution to the YMCA of Reading & Berks County. The donation is part of more than $1,000,000 contributed this year to eligible organizations across its marketplace by National Penn through its participation in the Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.
The educational contribution will be used to support pre-kindergarten scholarships available to local qualified families. The YMCA of Reading and Berks County offers child care for infants through school age to more than 1,000 children.
“We are honored to receive this donation from National Penn through the EITC program. Donations such as this allow the YMCA to offer financial assistance for child care to low income families in our community, said Kim Johnson, president & CEO of the YMCA of Reading & Berks County. “This support ensures that parents can go to work and school knowing that their children are being cared for in a quality program.”
The YMCA is a cause-driven organization that believes a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. The Y’s core services include transitional housing for homeless men, women and children; child care for low income families; and Baby University, a program to educate parents to be their child’s first and best teacher and therefore prepare our community’s children for kindergarten and beyond.
“We are pleased to contribute to this very worthy organization,” said Bruce Smith, president, National Penn’s Central Region. “We also recognize the importance of supporting local programs that provide children with opportunities for a successful educational path.”
