On Sunday, April 27, 2014, the Third Annual Al Bednar Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Arrowhead Golf Course with a shotgun start at Noon. Last year, approximately 130 golfers came out on a beautiful, sunny day to honor Al ‘Larry’ Bednar, husband, father, friend, US Mail Carrier in Pottstown for 22 years and an Exeter resident, who passed away on April 8, 2011, from a massive heart attack at the young age of 54.

Participants can register as foursomes, twosomes, single golfers, hole sponsors and even non-golfers can join for dinner. Keystone Villa at Douglassville and US Foods will again sponsor a barbecue dinner buffet for everyone to enjoy. Raffle prizes and 50/50 tickets will be sold to help support the cause. Every golfer will receive a t-shirt with the tournament logo on it and ‘You can call me Al,’ across the back, lyrics from a Simon and Garfunkel song. This year, a DJ will be playing music.

All donations will benefit the Al Bednar Memorial Scholarship Fund and will be presented to graduating senior athletes from Owen J. Roberts High School. Last year, $6000 was raised for two student scholarships at the school. Al was a 1974 graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School where he played baseball and basketball.

Kelli Gerth, co-chair of the event said, ‘The outpouring of individuals and businesses wanting to help was incredible. We are hoping for an even bigger event this year. Al Bednar touched a lot of lives.’

If you would like to donate to this wonderful cause, or if you would like to get on the mailing list for information regarding the event or to register, please call Deb Bednar, co-chair, at 610-385-5006.
