On Friday, Feb. 21 the Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center hosted a quilt show. Over forty quilts were displayed, including resident’s quilts. A large variety of wall hangings, table runners, quilted clothing and framed quilted art were also included in the show. The residents displayed their no sew, folded star quilt in a hoop craft and the quests were amazed at how beautiful these were. Visitors, residents and staff voted for their favorite items and the winners received placement ribbons. A forty year old, queen sized quilt, owned by Andrea Stoltzfus, and quilted for her as a wedding gift by her mother-in-law, Erma Stoltzfus, won the first place ribbon. Second place was awarded to a beautiful machine embroidered quilt owned by Elsie Witmer. A crazy quilt, which dated back to the 1870s, drew a lot of attention due to the unique stitches, embroidered figures and men’s hat bands, which were incorporated into this quilt. This quilt placed third and is owned by Jane Ewell. An honorable mention ribbon was awarded to Cornelia Hochstetler for her cross stitched violet pattern quilt, made by her mother.
A door prize, a hand quilted bag, quilted by Andrew Stoltzfus, was won by Irene Klein. All guests were treated to ‘Dutch’ refreshments. Quilts, fun, food and fellowship made this event a wonderful success.
