A 6-year-old boy was injured Sunday afternoon after he was struck by a car which stopped but then left the scene, police said.

According to Officer Alan Fay of the Birdsboro Police Department, the young boy was riding his bicycle in the 100 block of South Orange Street when he was hit by a blue or black Toyota Camry around 1:06 p.m. The boy wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

The boy was transported to Reading Hospital and Medical Center. The extent of his injuries was unknown.

The driver stopped her vehicle after striking the boy, but did not get out of the car and left the scene, Fay said.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the driver, described as a white woman in her 20s or 30s with brown hair that she was wearing in a ponytail.

The boy was released by the hospital, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Fay at 610-582-6037.
