Carmen E. Bowers

Carmen E. Bowers, 92, formerly of Shoemakersville died May 29 in Manor Care, Laureldale. She was the widow of George R. Bowers who died in 1964.

She was born in Orwigsburg and was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Daisy M. (Spence) Hummel.

Carmen worked at various knitting mills throughout the area as a machine operator for 60 years retiring in 1995.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Reading and its Senior Citizen Group.

She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Bowers of Shoemakersville and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on June 2 from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., Hamburg.

John R. Sousley

John R. Sousley, 82 of Albany Township died in his residence May 30 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Laila M. (Mertz) Sousley to whom he was married to for 61 years. They first met a Hummelís Restaurant in Lenhartsville and eventually became engaged there.

John was born in Albany Township and was the son of the late Robert C. and Bertha (Knechel) Sousley.

He was the owner operator of Johnís Auto and Towing, Albany Township for 55 years retiring in 2012.

John was a 1949 graduate of Kutztown High School and a peace time U.S. Army Veteran.

He was a former member of the Hawk Mountain Civic Club and a past president.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by 1 son, Kevin R. husband of Connie M. Sousley, 1 daughter Barbara A. wife of William Keim both of Albany Township. He is also survived by a grandson, Nathan Keim, of Albany Township, 1 step grandchild, Jason Ferguson, Allentown and 2 step great grandchildren, Kylie B. and Owen M. Ferguson both of Allentown.

John is also survived by a brother, Roy D. husband of Linda Sousley, Albany Township.

Services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friedenís Church, Old 22, Lenhartsville, PA. 19534.

Rebecca J. Harrison

Rebecca J. ďBeckyĒ Harrison, 30 of West Reading died in her residence June 1, 2014.

She was the daughter of Michael C. and Nancy J. (Schuster) Harrison of Tilden Township.

Becky was born in West Reading, PA.

She was a 2002 graduate of Hamburg Area High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2006 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania receiving both a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Education. She also played field hockey at Indiana.

She was employed as a Senior High School Social Studies teacher at Exeter High School. She also coached middle school softball at Exeter and middle school field hockey at Governor Mifflin.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister Melinda wife of Brad Krick, Bern Township and a brother Nathaniel Harrison, Harleysville, a niece Vienna and a nephew Henry. She is also survived by her maternal grandfather, George L. Schuster of Munhall, PA.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6th at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S. 4th Street, Hamburg. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Johnís Cemetery, Hamburg.
