One vehicle tractor trailer accident on I-78 in Upper Tulpehocken Twp.

Pennsylvania State Police report that a one vehicle commercial vehicle crash occurred on I-78 eastbound in the area of mile marker 21.8 in Upper Tulpehocken Twp. on June 1 at 2:52 a.m. David M. Hemp, 42, of Middlebrook, VA, was traveling in the right lane when the 2010 Volvo tractor trailer drifted off the south side of the road into the grass shoulder. The vehicle continued to travel in a south eastern direction then exiting the roadway with its driver side tires. The trailer then began to overturn followed by the truck overturning. Then the vehicle continued to slide while lying on its driver’s side. It came to rest with the cab portion of the truck on the grass should and the trailer on the shoulder impacted with the center concrete barrier. Both lanes of travel as well as both shoulder of I-78 eastbound in the area of mile marker 22 were blocked.

Hemp and his passenger William R. Knupp, 47, of Elkton, VA, were both transported to Reading Hospital by Bethel EMS and Hamburg EMS.

Strausstown Fire Department also assisted at the scene. Wensel’s towed the vehicle. I-78 was closed a result of this crash and traffic was detoured off I-78 eastbound at Exit 19.


Motorcycle injures woman in Penn Twp.

Pennsylvania State Police investigated a motorcycle crash on Bernville Rd. (Route 183) at the Blue Marsh Canteen in Penn Twp. on May 31 at 4 p.m. Deborah S. Delgado-Evans, 52, of Reading, was sitting stationary on her motorcycle prior to entering the roadway. She reported that the motorcycle fell over onto her left ankle, causing moderate injury. Delgado-Evans was transported by EMS Western Berks to St. Joseph’s Hospital to be evaluated.

There was minor damage to the 2008 Harley Davidson XL883LOW as a result of the crash.

There were no citations issued for this crash.

Theft in Jefferson Twp.

Pennsylvania State Police was dispatched to the 200 block of Tulpehocken St., Jefferson Twp., for the report of a theft. The 72-year-old victim, of Bernville, related that sometime between the hours of 9 p.m. on May 28 and 5 p.m. on May 29, unknown person(s) stole a passenger side mirror from his RV parked in the driveway and fled in an unknown direction.
