Man apprehended after fleeing scene in Hamburg on May 15

The Hamburg Borough Police report that Chad E. Blackston, 42, from Hamburg, was charged with Robbery, Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, Harassment, and Disorderly Conduct – Fighting or Threatening. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on Thursday, May 15, at approx. 4:25 a.m. in the 100 block of State Street in Hamburg, where Blackston allegedly robbed, harassed, and engaged in fighting a 39-year-old male.

On Thursday, May 15, at approx. 7:06 a.m., Blackston, intentionally damaged a Dodge Caravan, owned by Matthew Gromlich, by smashing the windshield, driver’s side window, driver’s side middle window and the driver’s side rear triangle window, while the vehicle was parked in the 100 block of State Street in Hamburg. Blackston fled the scene into the river to avoid apprehension. Blackston was later apprehended by the river. During his arrest he made terroristic threats to another.

On Thursday, May 15, Blackston was arrested for the above offenses and appeared before District Justice Bagenstose. Blackston was committed to Berks County Prison.
