Multi-vehicle crash in police pursuit in Hamburg

Pursuit of a suspect driving a stolen vehicle caused a multi-vehicle crash on North 4th Street in Hamburg, approximately 100 feet north of Port Clinton Avenue on June 7.

Pennsylvania State Police, in Hamburg, was notified by ONSTAR that a stolen vehicle was traveling east on I-78 in the area of Power Drive on June 7 at approximately 2:55 p.m. After several locations were given to the police by ONSTAR, troopers from the Hamburg Barracks intercepted the 2014 gray Chevrolet with a NJ registration, in the area of I-78 near Exit 29.

As troopers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle heading east on I-78, the suspect, Jaquan Tishan Kawan Grandy, 21, of Inwood, NY, attempted to elude the pursuing police units by accelerating to a high rate of speed.

Grandy made an abrupt turn onto the off ramp of I-78 to North 4th Street, Hamburg. He continued south on North 4th Street at a high rate of speed and turned right onto Port Clinton Avenue and then made another right turn into the parking lot of the Hamburg Market. While driving through the parking lot, Grandy endangered patrons and pedestrians and then attempted to exit the parking lot and enter North 4th Street.

Grandy’s vehicle struck a police vehicle nearly had on as he attempted to re-enter North 4th Street. The force of the initial impact caused both vehicles to strike an unoccupied Postal Delivery Vehicle that was parked.

Trooper Michael Koslosky was the driver of the police unit that was struck. Koslosky was transported by ambulance to Reading Hospital for treatment.

Grandy was transported by ambulance to Reading Hospital for treatment. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident and will be charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering, Receiving Stolen Property, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Unauthorized use of Automobiles and numerous traffic violations.

The Chevrolet Malibu received heavy front damage. The 2013 Ford Police Interceptor received heavy front damage. The 1992 Chevrolet Postal Service Vehicle received heavy left side damage.
