A Chester County man is dead after the car he was riding in crashed Sunday afternoon in the Borough of Bally, Berks County.

David Pearson, 57, of Downingtown, was the passenger in a four-door sedan that crashed head-on into a pole around 4 p.m. He was pronounced dead at 5:09 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

The car crashed in the 100 block of Main Street/Route 100 at the intersection of Church Street, according to the Eastern Berks Fire Company.

Police are waiting on a report from the Berks County Accident Reconstruction Team which will include the approximate rate of speed the car was traveling at the time of the crash.

The cause and manner of Pearson’s death is pending the results of an autopsy, which was scheduled for Monday afternoon.

The driver, Dennis Fujii, 65, also of Downingtown, is in critical condition, according to Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Police said Monday the cause of the crash is under investigation, but officers are in the process of procuring search warrants for the results of blood tests.

Pearson was the passenger in a four-door sedan that crashed head-on into a pole around 4 p.m., according to the Eastern Berks Fire Company.

The one-car crash occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Route 100 in this Berks County borough.

The name and condition of the driver have not been released.

A cause and manner of death for Pearson is pending an autopsy which is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
