Anthony D’Ambrosio Chryser,Dodge, Jeep and Ram in Elverson is showing their support for military families.

They placed a brand new pickup in their showroom and beginning June 14, in celebration of Flag Day, the challenge is to fill this truck with shelf stable foods and baby items for the Military Family Pantry at Keystone Soldiers in Leesport.

The promotion will run until June 28 at noon when the pickup will be driven to the pantry for their Grand Opening and Open House celebration (11am to 2pm). The truck will be unloaded by volunteers and the donations will be weighed in and used to stock the shelves that help our military families get through some tough times.

The Military Family Pantry was formed when the volunteers at Keystone Soldiers realized that they had quite a few items donated that were not suitable for care packages. These items were sometimes given to the local food pantry or armory for disbursement to families in need. During the last year there were more requests for help so it was decided to keep the items in one place and let those in need come in and get what they could use.

In June of 2013 the pantry was helping 12 families per month. As of May 2014 they are now assisting 20 to 25 families per week. This need will only increase as more troops come home to lost jobs, medical issues and delays in determinations of disability, and a host of other problems that put them in a position where they need help.

Any military member or veteran can stop by and grab some food or other household needs free of charge. No media are permitted entry during the pantry hours. The pantry is totally anonymous and we do not save names or share any information other than the total number of guests and the total weight of the donations given out. We do not contact the unit or FRG (unless they want us to). The privacy, security and safety of the troops and their families is our primary concern in everything we do. Donations for the pantry may be dropped off during regular hours or by calling 610-698-2122 for an appointment.
