This past week and weekend, Cabela’s stores honored the contributions of those who serve our country and communities by offering employee pricing to all veterans, active duty military and reserves, law enforcement, firefighters and EMS personnel.
The local Cabela’s in Tilden Twp. was no exception. With the special pricing from June 26-29, there was also a Community Safety Day event on June 28 to give the community a chance to honor and recognize the contributions local heroes make on a daily basis and also in emergency situations to keep the communities safe.
‘These are our hometown heroes,’ said one Cabela’s employee during the event.
Right at the entrance of the store, Hamburg and Shoemakersville Fire Departments parked a few of their trucks and opened them up for the community to take a look at the truck as well as the tools that are used in emergency situations. Firefighters from both departments were also on hand to talk with community members, answer questions, show off parts of the truck and give the young children a chance to meet a real firefighter and see the huge trucks up close. The excited children also got to get their very own fire hat and many did not take the plastic red hats off during the event.
Hamburg Fire Department members displayed their emergency vehicles and Shoemakersville Fire Department members displayed their water emergency boats and equipment.
From the enthusiastic shouts of ‘Fire Trucks’ and smiles from the young Cabela’s visitors, the event was a hit with the children and all ages enjoyed the chance to thank and speak with the local hometown heroes. Plenty of pictures were taken of the trucks and of course of the children with the trucks.
Inside the store, Keystone Wounded Warriors were set up with shirts and other items for sale and also spoke with visitors about the organization. Also at the event was the Pennsylvania State Police who offered free kid fingerprint ID cards. Local Marine Crops, Pennsylvania Fish Commission and local Boy Scouts were part of the event as well.
Sticking with the outdoors atmosphere of the store, Cabela’s employees were grilling some hotdogs for visitors at the entrance by the big statue.
The event was a great way to not only recognize and thank the organizations in the community that help in times of trouble, but to also meet and get to know the local hometown heroes.
