National Penn Bancshares, Inc. announced on June 30 a $40,000 contribution to Berks County Community Foundation.
The donation is part of more than $1,000,000 contributed this year to eligible organizations across its marketplace by National Penn through its participation in the Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.
The educational contribution will be used to support the Berks County Community Foundation’s “Berks County Scholarship Tax Credit Fund” for the 2014-2015 academic school year for students enrolled in kindergarten through twelfth grade attending private schools in Berks County.
“National Penn has made a significant contribution to the Tax Credit Fund,” said Kevin K. Murphy, president of Berks County Community Foundation. “The scholarships that are awarded from the fund help local families in need send their children to schools they feel will serve them best.”
Berks County Community Foundation was founded in 1994 to help individuals, families, organizations and businesses achieve their charitable objectives. Since that time, the foundation has grown to manage hundreds of charitable funds. Each year, those funds distribute scholarships and grants to support local students and nonprofit organizations and causes.
“National Penn takes pride in giving back to the local communities we are so privileged to serve,” said Bruce Smith, president of National Penn’s Central Region. “We continually look to support local programs and schools through the EITC program in order to help our youth continue their educational path.”
