Exeter Ambulance Association was in need of a rescue themselves on Tuesday, July 8 as the cab caught on fire after a routine trip to the service station in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania..
Smoke and fire were coming from the dashboard of the 2005 Medix Sprinter ambulance while in transit to Exeter.
‘The driver was able to get the vehicle off the road and away from harm,’ Jon Herbsleb, Chief of Exeter Ambulance said. West Shore Fire Department responded to the scene and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. No one was injured or hurt because of the fire; the ambulance was not carrying a patient.
The ambulance is considered a total loss at a cost around $110,000-$130,000. The loss of the ambulance will not hinder the pre-hospital emergency service for residents of Exeter Township and St. Lawrence Borough.
Exeter Ambulance is working with its insurance carrier and other entities to procure a replacement ambulance as soon as possible.
