The municipal water authority has lifted the boil water advisory for customers on the west side of the borough.
According to a notice posted to the borough website Friday morning, residents who had been issued the boil water notice no longer had to do so. The advisory had been issued to a couple hundred water customers Wednesday morning July 9 after a lightning strike Tuesday night caused an outage and infiltration of air into the water pumps at the water treatment plant.
Only residents on the west side of the borough were affected because they are at a higher elevation than the rest of the borough and only the pumps used to supply their water were affected, according to Borough Manager Aaron Durso.
In a previous interview, Durso said the system was not damaged and there were no breaks in any of the water pipes, but Department of Environmental Protection regulations required the borough issue the advisory and test the water after the pumps stopped working.
The average time the testing takes is about 48 hours, according to Durso.
