Softball players, coaches, parents and car enthusiasts came together at Bern Grove in Leesport on July 12 for the sixth annual Diamond Cruise Car Show benefiting the Schuylkill Valley Girls Softball Association.
“What a great day today and what a great turnout this year,” the group posted to their Facebook page following the event. “First we would like to take the time to thank all the volunteers that helped this year and Bern Church for letting us host our event there again. We hope everyone had a great time.”
Attendees were able to walk among the trees as they took a look at the cars in a variety of classes and were able to speak with the car owners who were more than willing to speak about their car. Just after noon, Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods performed to a full audience seated in lawn chairs by the stage and concession stand.
Due to a fast approaching storm, the show was cut a little shorter than originally planned, but awards were given out before any rain began to fall. One of the unique parts about the show is that the softball players give the winners their awards. The players also vote on their favorite vehicles for the players’ choice award of which three are given out.
Even with a hot day, the threat of rain and a shortened event, the attendees at the packed grove were full of smiles helping support a good cause with the SVGSA. Perhaps even more importantly the players appeared to have a fun time as well.
