UNION TWP – Approximately 15,000 Met-Ed customers across the tri-county area lost power late Sunday morning.
‘There was a major distrubance in the transmission system,’ said Karen Baxter, a spokeswoman for Met-Ed. ‘It took out about 15,000 customers around 11 a.m.’
Baxter said crews were being sent out to investigate exactly what caused the outage. She could not comment on any possible causes.
‘We’re calling in extra crews to do investigative work,’ she said.
Outages stretched from the Warwick area to west of Reading.
One customer reported an immediate shut-off with no dimming of lights or anything of the like beforehand.
Traffic lights in the area were reportedly knocked out as a part of the outage.
Crews were able to restore power to around 10,000 customers just after noon, and the remaining 5,000 customers were expected to be back on the grid by 3 p.m.
‘Right now, we’re calling (power) in and bringing it in from different directions, different area,’ she said around 1 p.m.
It’s unclear where the problem occurred and when crews may be able to determine the issue.
