RICHMOND TWP. – A Mohnton man was pulled from his burning pickup truck by a passing motorist after a four-car crash on Route 222 around 1:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
According to a press release from Fleetwood Borough Police, the accident occurred as southbound traffic was slowing due to congestion south of Dietrich Court on Kutztown Road/Route 222. A 2004 Mack dump truck, driven by Raymond T. Jones, 46, of Telford, rear-ended a 2006 Mazda Sedan, driven by Nick Davrados, 32, of Fleetwood, police said. Davrados was transporting a 1-year-old girl in his car, according to police.
The impact of the crash caused the Mazda to be pushed into the northbound traffic of Route 222, where it stopped, police said.
The Mack dump truck then hit the rear of a 2006 GMC pickup truck driven by Jonathan Martin, 38, of Mohnton, causing Martin’s vehicle to hit the back of a 2007 Freightliner dump truck driven by Wanda Davila, 45, of Bethlehem, police said. The pickup truck then caught fire, police said.
A good Samaritan who stopped to help after the crash pulled Martin from the burning pickup truck, police said.
After hitting the pickup truck, the Mack dump truck traveled halfway down an embankment before it overturned on its left side on a berm, police said. Jones, the dump truck driver, was trapped and had to be rescued by responding firefighters, police said.
Jones, Davrados and the 1-year-old in Davrados’ vehicle were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment after the crash, police said. Martin was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment, police said. Davila was not injured in the crash.
Police said all injuries were minor.
Assisting Fleetwood police at the scene was the Virginville, Walnuttown, Lyons and Kutztown fire departments; Kutztown, Schuylkill Valley and Muhlenberg EMS, and fire police from multiple counties.
